About Us

The Centre for Business Advancement and Research (CBAR) was founded in the summer of 2006 by twenty graduate and senior undergraduate students at the Odette School of Business and their faculty advisor, Dr. Francine Schlosser. Students who participate in CBAR receive course credit and students may receive up to two credits. CBAR students are a mixture of M.B.A. and Undergraduate Business Students. Students are chosen by the Director, based on grades, entrepreneurial interest and business experience, and are matched to projects.

The inaugural project by CBAR students was developing a strategic plan for the greenfield Centre. The second project was commissioned by the City of Windsor where students were asked to conduct a large opinion survey of local residents and businesses. In 2006, students developed the CBAR website (www.cbarwindsor.com) and set up a Sharepoint portal for more effective project management. In 2007, a renovated house located at 360 Sunset Avenue became the home of CBAR.

Since then CBAR students have worked on a mixture of pro-bono and paid projects ranging from providing market research for the Homebuilders Association and the Town of Amherstberg, organizing Angel Roundtable events, strategizing a new fundraising campaign for Clowns for Kids, developing best practices for the Windsor-Essex Tourism and Convention Centre and hosting communication forums with external agencies supporting small business in the Windsor-Essex Region such as ‘Starting your own On-line Business’ with the IPLIN students at the Faculty of Law.
