My name is Kate Willis and I am currently finishing my Masters of Business Administration.  I began my post-secondary education with a Bachelor of Commerce in Business Administration with a concentration in accounting.  Since the curriculum was so focused, I felt that I could really benefit from the Masters program.  It was my hope to broaden my skill set and I have already gained valuable experience that I have been able to apply to real situations.

One component of the MBA program was a work term for which I had gained a co-op placement at Hyatt Lassaline Chartered Accountants LLP.  In this first placement, I worked with other team members on a variety of assignments.  It helped me to further develop my knowledge in accounting and strengthen my interpersonal skills, as I was able to communicate with clients and draw from the other associates’ vast experience.  After successfully completing this first term, the partners offered to keep me on for two more semesters.  During this time, I was entrusted with more responsibility and completed some individual assignments.  These placements have given me the opportunity to tie my education in to real experiences and have also prepared me for my career.

Some of my hobbies include practicing yoga, reading fiction and classical singing.  I have been taking singing lessons for 12 years and have competed in competitions and performed in several recitals.  This experience has improved my confidence, which I have used in both my personal and work life.

I hope to showcase all of the skills that I have gained thus far, but more importantly, I look forward to working with my fellow CBAR classmates in hope that I will continue my development even further.
